Annie Nolan and sister Pippa have launched an online campaign for the safe return of the 15-year-old dog, whose disappearance has them fearful for his well-being.
You're always thinking is he okay, is he being treated well? There are so many horror stories.
- Annie Nolan
Ms Nolan said her sister had been in the front yard of the family's Eyre Street home, close to the Doveton Street corner, when Jerry wandered past the tall fenceline on December 18, about 3pm.
Pippa quickly herded the family's other dogs into the backyard and went to look for Jerry.
A woman driving past said she had gone to stop the escapee when a bearded man scooped up him up and said he knew the owners.
Jerry has not been seen since.
Ms Nolan said not knowing what happened or where Jerry might be was awful.
"You're always thinking is he okay, is he being treated well? There are so many horror stories," Ms Nolan said.
"Jerry is a family member. He was a rescue dog and has been with us a long time. He just gave us the best love - he was always so grateful, so happy...He would sit in mum's lap every night and they'd watch TV together.
"We know he's old and we would lose him eventually but we want him to live out his life happily."
Both Ms Nolan and her sister Pippa made an appeal for help via their social media channels late last week.
Jerry is micro-chipped and Ms Nolan said it was baffling he had yet turned up, especially if the man had mistakenly taken the wrong dog or if Jerry had just got loose.
Ms Nolan said Jerry was always smiling and trusting of people.
He was originally adopted by Ms Nolan and her now husband, Western Bulldogs' AFL premiership player Liam Pickering, before moving in with Ms Nolan's parents when the couple went on a short holiday.
It was there Jerry met Bob, the dog Ms Nolan said became Jerry's soul mate and life-partner. So, he remained living in Ballarat.
Ms Nolan said Bob had been grieving and she worried, wherever Jerry was, he was pining for his family and Bob, too.
The incident came days after Ms Nolan made news for breaking up a dog fight in Footscray.
