Small Space Music's Ronny Farrella said there was no clear or purposeful link between the two genres, despite a few common roots like being music for the people. This latest installment was all about being "fun, fun, fun".
"It's more that with the BMI (Ballaarat Mechanics' Institute) music series we celebrate all music styles, and trust that the audience are also the same and are keen to experience different sounds and musical histories in the same night," Mr Farrella said.
Decorated Melbourne guitarist Fran Swinn will lead a pre-concert music workshop on finding your musical style. Swinn is also part of new Melbourne group Fun, Fun, Fun celebrating the surf sounds of the 1960s.
