Tim Green had owned his 1970 Gibson Les Paul Gold Top Deluxe for 25 years. The guitar had been his pride and joy in any number of garage bands over the years and held great sentimental value, he says.
It's just a beautiful guitar, and I thought about selling it a few times, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it
- Tim Green
Although he wasn't playing it as much as he once did, the 50-year-old maple and mahogany instrument remained a prized possession and an investment. Green says he always struggled with the idea of selling it and actually letting it go.
Instead he kept it under his bed as a buffer against any future hardship. It was stolen from his home in Beaufort recently.
"It's just a beautiful guitar, and I thought about selling it a few times, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it," Green says.
Mr Green reported the theft to Beaufort police and said the Ballarat Crime Unit was investigating, but had heard nothing more from police about his guitar.
He hopes someone in the music community in Ballarat has perhaps seen the Gibson. Its serial number is 917905.
The Les Paul is a favourite of many famous guitarists over the years, especially when it was released in in 1969. Players of note include Jimmy Page, Neil Young, Pete Townshend and Slash.
