Ballarat Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a series of fires in Snake Valley this afternoon, according to a police media spokesperson.
The exact circumstances of the fires are unknown at this stage, and the investigation remains ongoing.
PREVIOUSLY:
Firefighters have successfully brought the fires near Carngham under control.
It took firefighters almost an hour to extinguish the blazes, which are being treated as suspicious.
Victoria Police has been notified and contacted for comment.
There was confusion as to the exact locations of the fires as multiple calls were reported in a short period of time.
The two main fires were on Ballarat-Carngham Road near Browns Lane and the other near the corner of Chepstowe-Pittong and Carngham-Lake Goldsmith roads.

At one stage there were more than a dozen units on the scene.
An advice message was issued for Bo Peep, Cardigan, Carngham, Haddon, Hillcrest, Smythesdale, Snake Valley, indicating there was no threat but residents should monitor conditions.
