The 2019 defending premier will play to stay in the top four in a one-day clash in the Ballarat Cricket Association.
It will take on Mt Clear in the final round of the BCA competition. A win at Russell Square on Saturday would sure up a place in the finals for the club, set to begin in just over a weeks time.
But a loss would create uncertainty for the Hawks, who would have to hope Wendouree don't get over the top of North Ballarat.
The Red Caps are currently half-a-game out of the top four but could leapfrog East Ballarat, should it lose to Mt Clear.
East Ballarat captain Josh Brown said his club was well aware what was at stake.
"We're starting to play some good cricket so we are pretty confident. Hopefully we can get the job done," he said.
"Batting has looked a lot better the last few games and hopefully the bowling can continue."
The Hawks have yet to play the Mounties, who sit second on the competition ladder. Brown said the potential season-altering match would be won or lost early in the encounter.
"Russell Square is a high scoring ground so the first innings will be very important," he said.
After toppling North Ballarat to take the BCA premiership 12 months ago, the club has struggled to recapture the same form, in what has been an up and down season.
"Not having a set team has been the biggest issue," Brown said.
"We've had 22 players play ones this year, so there has been a lot of new faces and we've struggled to get our best team together."
Brown said the club will make no changes to its line-up ahead of the clash.
Meanwhile Golden Point will need to secure a victory to ensure it stays in the finals picture. The club, which is third heading into the round, will take on Buninyong at Eastern Oval.
A win would see the Pointers wrap up third spot, but a loss could place them in jeopardy.
While unlikely, it's possible for the club to miss the finals all together should it lose to Buninyong, and East Ballarat and Wendouree secure sizable victories.

Pointies captain Josh White said a loss would mean the club would have to rely on percentage to get through.
"If we win we'll make sure of it," he said.
"We just really want to win, and keep some momentum going as well."
Elsewhere on Saturday Darley will look to finish the regular season with a perfect record with a win over Brown Hill. Wendouree will face North Ballarat and Napoleon-Sebastopol will face Ballarat-Redan.
