The Ballarat cricketer, who plays for Victoria, was set to to take on Tasmania for a spot in the Marsh Sheffield Shield season grand final.
However New South Wales has been awarded this season's Sheffield Shield title, after Cricket Australia cancelled the remainder of games.
CA has also recommended all grade and amateur cricket should cease, bringing the 2019-20 cricket season to an abrupt end.
Short said he had a trip to Bali booked for the off-season, which he would likely have to cancel.
"For me this off-season is now about taking it easy and trying to see a bit of family back in Ballarat," he said.

Short said the last few weeks had been one of the craziest periods he'd ever experienced.
