The Ballarat Golf Club celebrated its 125th anniversary during a time of unusual circumstances on Saturday.

While the doors remain closed on the Alfredton facility, the club announced on Facebook and its website that it had reached the significant milestone.
"On this day, 125 years ago, the club was founded at a meeting attended by just two people," a post about the history of the club states.
"From the minute book records: A meeting for the purpose of founding a golf club was held at Mr Corbetts, Union Bank, on 11th April 1895. The Hon Ths. Drummond Wanliss MLC took the chair.
"It was resolved to found a club to be called The Ballarat Golf Club.The club would be based on the grounds of the Ballarat common next to where the Arch of Victory was opened on 2 June, 1920."
Last month, the Ballarat Golf Club closed its doors due to the COVID-19 crisis, with all play at the course also suspended.
