AFL Victoria has suspended all as aspects of community football until at least May 31.
Hopes remain that an abbreviated football season might be able to be played.
If this comes to realisation, let's take a look at how teams will shape up.
Lake Wendouree is coming off a tough year - missing finals.
After finishing on top of the BFL ladder in 2016 and 2017, but coming up short in their quest of a second premiership, Lakers have seen a steady flow of top-end players move on.
Coach Dale Power has had to undergo a rebuild with a long-term view - bringing in some talented youngsters.
There were some goods signs last season from the likes of Scott Carlin, Josh Bibby and Jacob Coxall.
They reaped the benefit of playing alongside one of the competition's most experienced midfields, featuring Bailey Edwards and Henderson Medallists Ben Taylor and Shane Hutchinson.
Power's task is going to so much tougher this year with Edwards, Taylor and Hutchinson all gone, even though he has attracted new blood from the CHFL.
Power has no hestitation in acknowledging those losses are going to hurt big time.
PLAYER MOVEMENTS
The arrival of highly credentialled former North Ballarat Rooster Nick Rippon from North Melbourne's VFL program is huge. He is potentially the recruit of the year in the BFL.
Rippon should have been the icing on the cake for Lakers' midfield, but instead he is going to have to carry a massive responsibility.
He was to have travelled for a significant part of the year, but any games he would have managed in a full season would have been a boon for the club.
ON THE FIELD
Finding a way to goal will again be Lake Wendouree's biggest challenge, especially potentially without the same midfield drive.
Hardly a week went by in 2019 without Power lamenting Lakers' inability to convert in attack.
He said amajor assignment would be developing a functional forward line which provided reward for effort.
