Well Deserved has his first outing for Grenville trainer Greg Moss and his daughter Kristy, who is leasing the eight-year-old from AJ and BJ Tindale at Berringa.
The Tindales prepared Well Deserved before his close shave with death.
Kristy's mother Debra Wicks-Miss, who will drive Well Deserved in the Interpath Trot at Bray Raceway, said the chance to add the gelding to their stable had come at an opportune time.
She said Kristy had tragically lost another trotter Kilkee in a paddock mishap and Well Deserved was the perfect replacement.
Wicks-Moss said it had been Well Deserved's great temperament which had persuaded the Tindales to have life-saving surgery performed on the son of Angus Hall when he went down with colic.
She said he had remained in the paddock since and when the Tindales heard that Kristy Moss was on the look out for a new race horse they made the offer.
Wicks-Moss said Well Deserved had a great nature, being quiet and placid - making him ideal for Kristy, who is blind, to be out and about with.
Well Deserved has been with the Moss family about six months and there is plenty of anticipation about what will be his first race start since December, 2016.
The only downside is that COVID-19 restrictions means Kristy will not be able to be on track and will have to follow the race from home.
