Despite the fact the Ballarat Beard & Stache Competition is unable to operate in its usual, in person showcase form due to COVID-19 restrictions, the contest will still aim to shine a spotlight on great designs from all over the world.
Ballarat Beard and Mustache Union president Jake Warren said while it is disappointing the contest can't be held as it usually would, he is remaining positive.
"You have to look on the bright side... By going to this online format, we can reach such a broader audience and have people from anywhere in the world submit themselves into the competition," he said.
"We've got people from interstate who have entered as well as a number of international entrants from England and New Zealand."
The contest will feature five categories ranging from full beards stretching beyond 10 centimetres and mustaches styled in any way you could imagine.
Mr Warren has been very pleased with the number of entrants heading into the final day of submissions on Saturday, however he is most excited to see what people come up with in the Just for Fun category.
The category is calling out to anyone, man, woman or child, to shape the most extravagant beard out of whatever they can think of.
We want people to get super creative.
- Jake Warren said about the category.
"Whether it's with a fake beard or making a beard out of something surprising. We've had one entrant use toilet paper to make her beard."
When asked why not simply postpone the event until later in the year rather than run it online, Mr Warren said he wanted to provide some joy for people who have become used to the event taking place during the Ballarat Heritage weekend.
"We don't know if there is going to be a time we could hold this later in the year," he said.
"People are so used to the competition happening around this point in time we just thought it would be best to give people something to get excited about and participate in."
