Bandy said the club had long been maligned for its heavy course during the winter months and had invested heavily to improve the surface of fairways, tees and greens.

Extensive Verti-draining and scarifying has been completed across the 18 holes in a bid to achieve more play-ability through the wetter periods of the year.

"While the virus was not good in many ways, it's helped us really fast-track getting a lot of those works done," Bandy said.

"Midlands becomes extremely heavy through winter so that's part of the strategy. And the other is to improve that 10m around the green with a thicker grass coverage.

"We had a lot of rain earlier in the week and the course has drained, we feel, a lot more effectively than last year already."
