"She's got stakes ability - she's shown that," he said.
The Ballarat-trained Broadwayandfourth ($5.50) had the first win of this preparation in the $108,000 Super Box Race Day Hamper Handicap for three-year-old fillies at Caulfield on Saturday with Melham in the saddle.
Her trainer Mitch Freedman said it was good to see her back in the winner's circle.
"She's a horse with a lot of ability. (It's) probably taken a bit of time to get her fit this time in. She's a bit grosser than she was last time.
"She's going to be a horse that'll be a fringe player in mares grade, I would have thought," he said.
Broadwayandfourth finished hard down the centre of the track to score by one length and bring up her third career win.
Freedman said the daughter of Smart Missile had a little bit of work to do at the top of the straight, but not as much work as she had had to do in her past few starts.
"She was just getting hopelessly out of her ground and it was frustrating for me and probably the connections.
"A big thanks to Billy Egan. He came up and rode a few jump outs for us during the week" he said.
"He got her up into gear and up into the lead and you can see there today that she was a bit better away and a bit better into her stride.
"When you don't have to make up so much ground you get a better result that's for sure," Freedman said.
Melham said Broadwayandfourth used to be a bit erratic - not aggressive - but fire up a bit.
"We've just been going steady with her, but I think she's become too accustomed to dropping out the back so I put her into the race and made her be prominent from the better draw today," he said.
Broadwayandfourth was the first leg of a winning double for Melham.
He also scored on Tavisan ($7.50) for Caulfield trainers Mick Price and Michael Kent junior.
CAULFIELD/Ballarat/Sydney trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace continue to plunder Sydney's juvenile races, with Anders delivering their third two-year-old city win this month on Saturday.
Macroura scored a brace of wins during May and Anders has added to the tally in capturing the Darley 2yo Handicap, 1100m, at Rosehill.
"We have been very fortunate to have an exceptional crop of young horses," stable representative Annabel Neasham said.
"I think what makes this season's crop so exciting is that we feel they can continue to improve at three."
