The meeting will be livestreamed on council's website, from 4pm.
The council agenda for tomorrow's meeting includes an officer recommendation that a chief executive be hired, with the name and salary left blank for now.
The interim chief executive would hold the appointment from June 12 to April 30, 2021,"or until the date Council appoints a permanent Chief Executive Officer," the agenda states.
"Following an expression of interest process, the Council appointed Sal Corp Pty Ltd to assist the Council in recruiting an Interim Chief Executive Officer.
"An interview and screening process have been conducted and the Council is now in a position to make an appointment (not greater than 12 months) and to fix the remuneration."
The remuneration would be "consistent with the previous incumbent Chief Executive Officer remuneration package"
All nine councillors have been involved in interviewing candidates for the role, with interviews beginning last week.
It's understood the meeting will involve councillors discussing the results of these interviews, before selecting a candidate.
The former chief executive, Justine Linley, was fired by council on May 18 following an ombudsman's report alleging misconduct in hiring practices. In a statement, mayor Ben Taylor said council had "acted decisively" in response.
"Our focus is on ensuring that we, as councillors and the City of Ballarat, continue to deliver for the community of Ballarat and make Ballarat a better place," he said. "We are focused on getting on with the business of council and delivering outcomes for Ballarat, and we will continue to deliver on our Council Plan 2017-2021."
