The St Alipius Parish School pupil and two friends immediately reported the incident to a teacher and police were contacted after the incident on Friday last week.
A parent also reported a male acting inappropriately near the school.
In a letter to parents sent on Friday afternoon, principal Eileen Rice said: "I commend our students, our staff, our parents and the police in managing this incident in a calm and efficient way.
"The policies, the processes and the learning program that we have in place to keep students safe, were followed effectively today.
"I am proud of the confident and articulate way in which our students spoke with adults and the respectful way that adults responded".
Police said the investigation was continuing and anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
