But on Wednesday, for one day only, any donation to Eureka Mums of that amount will be enough to support four families.
Eureka Mums, a subsidiary of St Kilda Mums, will be part of a day-long virtual telethon, with all financial donations to be quadrupled.
The goal for Eureka Mums is to reach $32,000 on the day, which means it is hoped that $8000 can be pledged locally to the almost entirely volunteer-run service.
St Kilda Mums chief executive officer Jessica Macpherson said the three locations - St Kilda, Ballarat and Geelong - will come together as one for the fundraiser, which across the state aims to raise just over $1 million, enough to support a third of the service for the year.
"We've been very fortunate to have Megan Gale, Chrissie Swan and Katie 'Monty' Diamond who are going to be part of the day," Ms Macpherson said.
"We're going to be running a Facebook live event, we're also contacting those who have helped donate in the past and we've been incredibly fortunate to have received some significant trust donations as well.
"We've also got a partnership with homeless support service Street Smart Australia, while we have also received a number of anonymous donations as well.
"This event, which is essentially a telethon, is all about financial donations. Right now, with COVID-19, we can only accept physical donations by appointment and we are also limited with the amount of volunteers we have being able to work at the warehouse."
Ms Macpherson said with support from a range of partners across the state, the service was able to keep essential packs to just $126 per child.
"Imagine what you would spend $126 on and how such a donation can help struggling families," she said.
And while the service is based in the three largest centres, it still helps families all across the state.
"Last year for example 34 per cent of children living in poverty in Warrnambool received some help from our service," Ms MacPherson said.
"We want to be able to help people all over Victoria. You look at places like Bairnsdale, they are now going to lose their Target Country as well, for so many people, they have to travel to the city to get services.
"If someone is to donate just $126 it's enough to support four families."
St Kilda Mums receives no ongoing government funding and relies entirely on the generosity of the community to maintain its operations.
A live event will be held on the St Kilda Mums Facebook page throughout the day and if you wish to support the cause, you can do so at stkildamums.org
