Shannon Byrnes' transfer request comes from Deer Park in the Western Region competition and follows news earlier this year that he would be joining the Eagles.
Byrnes won premierships with the Cats in 2007 and 2009 before finishing his career with Melbourne.

"He's probably the biggest name we've ever added to the club in all honesty," Gordon president Peter Clifford said in March.
"Ron used to coach the Geelong VFL side and coached Shannon when he was younger."
