The final domino in Wimmera football and netball has fallen after it was announced the 2020 Wimmera Football League and Wimmera Netball Association seasons would be abandoned.
The two boards made the joint decision on Monday night that both senior competitions would be cancelled and the focus would shift towards offering juniors the opportunity to participate in football and netball.
Wimmera league clubs shared news of the cancellation with their members on social media, thanking them for their support and commitment despite the uncertainty around the football-netball season.
The WFL and WNA's call to abandon their senior grades comes after the Horsham District Football Netball League moved last week to abandon its 2020 season.
The HDFNL board also expressed a desire to offer something for its junior competitors.
Wimmera football-netball clubs had been training in the hope of taking to the field but doubts around crowds and COVID-19 safety guidelines had left seasons hanging in the balance.
New restrictions introduced by the state government at the weekend limited outdoor gatherings to 10 people.
An AFL Wimmera Mallee announcement on the cancellation is expected on Tuesday morning.
Closer to home, the Central Highlands league will make a decision on this year's season by next Monday, while the BFNL has a meeting scheduled for Tuesday night - three days earlier than the date it had set for a decision on season 2020.
