Emma Snow is a Victorian finalist in the Miss World Australia competition, but away from that, she is putting her face forward for children's charity Variety, in a bid to show the world that beauty is more than just skin deep.

People are being encouraged to post photographs of themselves without make-up on social media as part of Make-up Free Day on July 3.

"The reason I wanted to get involved is because I've struggled with self image in the past," Ms Snow said.

"I had a rough time growing up with bad skin, even now I'm 22 and I still get quite bad skin. Every day it can be different, so I'm interested to see how I will wake up on July 3."

Ms Snow said social media could have both a negative and positive effect on young girls.

"We are on social media all the time and everything you see is a photoshopped images," she said.

"I think it's very nice thing of Variety to get involved in something like this that can target young girls to show you're perfect as you are.

"Make-up is a mask, and don't get me wrong, I love the artistry of make-up, it can be a great way to express yourself, but you can't promote that as being reality all the time."

Ms Snow said she was attracted to enter the Miss World competition purely due to its charity side.

Since 1951, the Miss World organisation has raised more than £250 million for children's charities that help disabled and underprivileged children.

"I wanted to do something a little bit bigger than myself and so I decided to enter Miss World essentially because of the charity aspect of it," she said.

"Miss World is always more about the humanitarian side of things for the girls, there is no swimsuit competition, it's a lot more about how you can make a difference.

"I've come from an acting background, so I've always loved performing in front of a crowd and to be able to do this and combining work for charity is a great opportunity."

The Victorian final is hoped to be held in August should restrictions be lifted withe the national competition slated for Queensland in October. The Miss World pageant is hoped to be held in London in December.

National Director of Miss World Australia, Deborah Miller said the organisation wanted to pioneer "letting your inner beauty glow".

"True beauty is skin deep and manifests from your spirit. We all know someone who lights up the room with their sparkling eyes and genuine smile, because it from the heart."
