He said the uncertainty about whether football would go ahead during the COVID-19 restrictions had been "mentally gruelling" on players.
"It's time to take a break."
German said the Cobras would re-assess their approach after taking off three to four weeks from training.
The first-year coach said he was was extremely disappointed when the announcement came through that there would be no competition this year.
German said he had heard there was a strong chance the season would proceed and it had been a let down when news of the decision was handed down late last week.
He said he could not fault Bacchus Marsh's pre-season, going right back to its only practice match.
German was appointed for one year and his keen to stay on at Maddingley Park.
He said he had received a commitment from a strong line-up of recruits that they would stay on next season.
NORTH Ballarat City coach Shane Skontra is adopting a similar approach, bringing training to a halt.
"I'll give the boys two to three weeks off before we re-engage."
He said he would be largely guided by the players as to whether they resumed some form of training or waited until a regular pre-season timeline.
Meanwhile, Skontra is yet to determine whether he coaches on next season, with this year the end of his existing agreement with North Ballarat. He was re-appointed last season to take charge for a third year.
THE Bendigo league became the latest competition to fall on Wednesday night.
