Speaking on the latest "Off the Record" podcast, Farrell said she hates that Ballarat cant field a VNL team for the city's top players to play in.
"It really irks me, these girls should be really celebrated and it's hard to celebrate them," she said.
"I feel like they have to play netball in the Ballarat Football League to be celebrated and I hate that.
"I would rather they be celebrated for playing the top netball, and they aren't because we have no idea how good these girls really are against other top netballers."
Farrell played one season for Ballarat's VNL club, the Ballarat Pride, and went on to serve on its committee when it was re-branded to the Ballarat Sovereigns.
The podcast discusses the creation and ultimate demise of the club, which lost its bid to renew its VNL license in 2018.
