A Ballarat man has been remanded in custody after allegedly throwing his car keys onto a roof of a building to avoid having his vehicle searched by police officers.

Detective Sergeant Mark James, of the Hamilton police crime investigation unit, said a 43-year-old Ballarat man and a Ballarat woman, 24, were arrested about 10pm on Monday.
Police intercepted a vehicle after it left an address in east Hamilton known to be associated with drug activity.
After pulling over the car, officers informed the driver his vehicle would be searched under the Drugs, Poisons and Controlled Substances Act, but he was not cooperative.
The driver remonstrated with police and officers deployed capsicum foam to subdue him and the woman.
But, during that process the man threw his car keys onto the roof of a nearby building, in an attempt to further hinder police.
Hamilton Country Fire Authority volunteers were called and assisted in retrieving the keys so a search could be conducted.
Police found about 10 grams of what is believed to be ice - crystal methylamphetamine - in the vehicle.
"They were less than cooperative after being told the vehicle would be searched and because of their demeanor and behaviour they were sprayed with capsicum foam," Detective Sergeant James said.

"The male offender locked the car and threw the keys on the building and the CFA were called to help get the keys back off the roof.
"Ten grams of what is believed to be amphetamine was found in the car and an amount of cash."
The investigator said both the man and woman were arrested, interviewed and charged with trafficking and possessing methamphetamine, possession of prescription medication and possessing the proceeds of crime - the cash.
The man appeared in Warrnambool Magistrates Court on Tuesday afternoon .
He did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody until August 24.
