A TRIBUTE uniform to the four police officers who lost their lives in the Eastern Freeway crash in April has been designed as part of Bendigo East lawn bowler Brad Marron's latest fundraising endeavour.
The uniforms in honour of Constable Josh Prestney, Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor, Constable Glen Humphris and Senior Constable Kevin King will help to raise money for the Blue Ribbon Foundation.
"On the night of the crash where the four officers lost their lives I got in touch with Daniel (Nichols) from Premier Bowls Wear about creating a tribute uniform that lawn bowlers can wear because we have a lot of police members who also play bowls throughout the state," Marron said on Thursday.
"So the graphics team has come up with a design that can be worn in tournaments and so forth that pays tribute to not only the officers who died in the crash earlier this year, but any other officers who have died in the line of work."
With a slogan of "Rolling in Memory", the uniform set features shorts, polo shirt and hoodie and has already attracted widespread interest, including from the Victoria Police lawn bowls team.
"They have about 80-odd members part of the team who are all very interested in the gear and Alex Marshall, the greatest player to have played the game, has some of it, so there has been a lot of interest already, which is really good," Marron said.
A full set of the uniform can be purchased for $120, or garments can be bought individually, with a portion of each sale to go towards the Blue Ribbon Foundation.
The Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation formed in 1998 "perpetuates the memory of members of the Victoria Police who have died in the line of duty through the support of worthwhile community projects within Victoria."
"The uniform gives a really good visual representation in memory of those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving," Senior Constable Peter Clarke said.
"Being worn by young and old, it's a good way to show support and is making a contribution to an important foundation.
"It's a great design... it catches the eye and people seeing it are going to ask questions and therefore it will create a conversation about what the uniform hopes to achieve."
Anyone interested in purchasing the uniform can contact Marron on 0432 013 157 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
Earlier this year in January Marron raised more than $13,000 for the Australian Red Cross Disaster Fund for bushfire relief by lawn bowling for 24 straight hours at Bendigo East.
