A Federation University building at Mt Helen was closed for deep cleaning after a student returned a positive test for COVID-19.
The nursing student was in the nursing lab building on July 28 and has since been confirmed as positive to coronavirus.
The student has been in self-isolation since 1 August.
All affected staff and students have been contacted directly.
The 'S building' at the campus has now been deep cleaned and reopened in accordance with government regulation, according to an email that was sent out to staff.
The university says it will now suspend practical nursing laboratory classes for Bachelor of Nursing students.
This will be in place until at least September 13 - when Melbourne's stage 4 restrictions are due to end.
Normal teaching of Bachelor of Nursing students will continue remotely.
There are now 16 active cases within the City of Ballarat, a number which jumped by three on Thursday.
The latest figures are due to be released on Friday afternoon.
