Speaking at Gong Gong reservoir, which is part of the Corangamite CMA, Ms Pulford announced more than 265 new jobs across seven catchments, one of which was the Corangamite CMA.

"Here at the Gong Gong just outside of Ballarat, there will be important clean out works and environmental works," she said.

"Really importantly, the people in these jobs will be replacing some of the volunteer capability that's been lost as people have needed to stay home and adjust to changing schedules as a result of the pandemic."

The new jobs within the CMAs benefiting from the boost will aim to improve land and catchment health through the removal of rubbish, increased re-vegetation, pest management control and waterway maintenance.

The announcement comes as part of the state Government's Working for Victoria Fund, which aims to create employment opportunities for those who lost their jobs as a result of the pandemic.

The $500 million fund has already created over 9000 jobs since it launched in April. Ms Pulford spoke about the importance of the Working for Victoria initiative.

"Working for Victoria is a really essential part of our government's work to support people who have lost their jobs through the coronavirus recession," she continued.

"Our support for economic recovery... now is in excess of $9 billion, but one of the very first initiatives we kicked into gear with this program."

Minister for Water Lisa Neville added her view of the initiative, stating how crucial the work of CMAs around the state are.

"Victoria's CMAs do an amazing job managing and keeping our water healthy and these roles will deliver even more important local projects around the state," she said.

Ms Pulford confirmed over 70,000 Victorians have already signed up for the Working for Victoria initiative and that the government is committed to creating over 10,000 new jobs.
