Jake Long, of Wendouree, appeared briefly in the dock on Wednesday afternoon. He did not apply for bail and he was remanded in custody until next month.
The collision occurred at the Howitt Street and Creswick Road intersection about 7.20pm on August 17. It was reported Paramedics were called to treat five people, including three children.
Long has been charged with nine offences, including reckless conduct that placed people in danger of serious injuries, negligently causing serious injury, dangerous driving causing serious injury, dangerous driving, careless driving, entering an intersection against a red traffic light and failing to provide a blood sample.
His lawyer told the court her client had custody management issues which needed attention.
She said Long had a cracked sternum, he had mental health concerns and he had been quite distressed about the allegations.
Magistrate Ron Saines noted the issues before remanding Long in custody until September 2 for a further mention.
