For the first time, this "critically important" information will be released from this afternoon.
Announced by health minister Jenny Mikakos late on Monday morning, the new Department of Health and Human Services data dashboard will be a way for you to check if you crossed paths with someone infected.
"People will be able to search and see if a known case has been in the local shopping centre, local cafe, workplace or another location," she told reporters in Premier Daniel Andrews' daily press conference.
"That means people can be armed with that information in terms of making an assessment themselves about any exposures they might have had visiting that same location on that day, and at that time."
Ms Mikakos said the data was being released "as we go on the journey in the coming weeks to start to lift some...restrictions".
Her comments come as Ballarat eliminates COVID-19 for the first time since July 15 - no active cases are confirmed in the city.
This time last week, Ballarat had 28 active infections.
Ms Mikakos said the new information dashboard "was just the start".
"It is important that we armed the community with this information by local government area, but also that people remain vigilant and go and get tested at the earliest opportunity if they develop any symptoms at all," Ms Mikakos said.
"We are going to be working very closely with local councils, health services, community organisations to make this information available on the website, but also looking to provide more information, more data, as time goes on."
