Jason Underwood was sentenced to a 24-month community corrections order at the Ballarat Magistrates' Court on Wednesday for assaulting emergency workers on duty in April.
The 46-year-old man started firing the nail gun inside his house and used it to secure his front door, effectively barricading himself inside.
He then started firing the nail gun at police members who believed he fired it five times. Police members continued to negotiate with Underwood until he was arrested.
Underwood was transported to Ballarat Health Services Base Hospital where his blood alcohol level was measured at .230.
He was released a short time later and placed into police custody.
Last Wednesday, Underwood pleaded guilty to more than eight charges, including assaulting emergency workers while on duty and family violence related charges for sending Facebook messages and phoning the victim.
The victim's statement was tendered to the court on Wednesday but was not read aloud.
Magistrate Noreen Toohey told Underwood not to make a mistake.
"Any further offending in relation to the victim (and) you can expect lengthy jail terms," Ms Toohey said.
Underwood was sentenced to 126 days' imprisonment, which he has already served, for the family violence offences.
His community corrections order includes judicial monitoring for which he will return to court for in November.
Underwood would have been sentenced to seven months' imprisonment if he did not plead guilty, according to the magistrate.
He did not have any prior convictions.
