Photographer Kate Healy's snap of Learmonth player Jack Treweek kicking the footy in horrifically muddy conditions, from October last year, won the RPCV's Sports Photography category.

She had some tough competition in the category, with The Courier's own Adam Trafford taking home a Highly Commended for his portrait of Waubra's bearded warrior Nicholas Moran at the 2019 CHFL grand final.
He also received a Highly Commended for a stunning portrait of Ballarat's Neil Para in the general interest photography category, backed up with a Commended for a shot of six-year-old Max Thomas joining in the fun for National Tree Day.
This is not Kate's first RPCV win, she said, but she did admit the win on Thursday evening was a surprise.
"I thought Traff was going to take it," she joked.
"All the photographers had some awesome, amazing, and outstanding images, and they all were winners in their own right."
The gallery of photos from that particular match in Learmonth could all be strong nominations for the award - she described conditions on the day as "shocking"
"It was good timing, and I could see the player's face, but it still took a while to work out what team he was on," she said.

The Rural Press Club Victoria Awards celebrate the best in regional journalism - in the other categories, ABC Gippsland dominated with its superb and tireless coverage of the bushfires earlier this year.
