The Melbourne franchise Burger Road will set up its newest and first regional Victorian location on Lydiard Street North inside the former home of the Printers Room and Sebastiaan's Cafe.
The 'American style burger joint' currently has three locations in metropolitan Melbourne, however co-owner Danish Singh said he is excited to move into the region.
"We can't wait to actually open up and get things moving in Ballarat," he said.
The outlet has previously been listed on the best burgers in Burgers of Melbourne in 2017 and Urbanlist in 2017. No firm date has been given for opening as of yet.
The Printers Room and Sebastiaan's Cafe have been closed since early March after their leases were not renewed.
Burger Road may be the newest restaurant on the block so to say, however it will have its competition as it's surrounded by other businesses which share a very similar market.
Just between Lydiard Street North and Doveton Street North, similar restaurants such as The Sporting Globe, Griffin Burger, Boss Burger Co and The Gravy Spot already reside.
The trend of more and more fast food outlets opening within the region is nothing new, with The Courier highlighting the glut of businesses between Creswick Road and Gillies Street in Wendouree in July.
The Courier counted 20 fast food or takeaway shops between Creswick Road and Gillies Street, plus a further six petrol stations which also sold fast food.
In comparison, there are only two stores that sell fruit and vegetables, but only one dedicated fruit grocer, the other being a Woolworths supermarket.
It comes as the Australian Bureau of Statistics' most recent national health survey from 2017-18 showed just over two thirds (67 per cent) of Australian adults were overweight or obese (12.5 million people), up from 63.4 per cent in 2014-15.
