Ballarat students joined thousands of students across the country on Friday aiming to continue pushing the climate change issue forward, despite the pandemic.

A collection of students from the Ballarat region took part in the School Strike for Climate event by hosting a video discussion about the gas-led recovery plan.
It was announced last week that Australia's economic recovery from COVID-19 will be largely rebuilt on fossil fuels, according to the Government.

Ballarat student Kira Dawson told The Courier despite the ongoing pandemic, events like Friday are crucial in continuing the climate change movement.
"We as a group in Ballarat are hoping to keep the conversation going around climate change," she said.
"One of the main things we are protesting is the gas-led recovery in Australia... we as students want to explore options for economic recovery that won't damage our future."
Along with her fellow Ballarat students, Ms Dawson made signs reading 'Fund our future, not gas' in opposition to the gas-led recovery plan.
Over 500 events took place across the country, which Ms Dawson said was important to keep the climate change conversation ongoing.
"Our biggest goal is to help people realise that despite everything else going on in the world, the movement can't just stop," she said.
"It's just as important, even with the pandemic going on, climate change is still going to be an issue. Showing that students are still passionate about this and that our passion isn't going away is really important."
