Firefighters were initially called to a grass and scrub fire in bushland near Recreation Road about 3.30pm.
Multiple firefighting units responded to the fire, which was brought under control about 4.10pm.
While responding, firefighters located two other fires in the area - one near Katy Ryans Road and another off Boundary Road - which they proceeded to put out.
Areas of the blackened landscape were taped off.
Victoria Police officers were on scene during the afternoon, while a fire investigator was called to determine a cause.
Ballarat Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the fires, which are being treated as suspicious.
The fires did not pose a threat to any properties.
