Bowls Victoria has modified return to play guidelines, which initially under COVID-19 restrictions had bowlers having to wear a mask while competing.
They are now permitted to remove masks while actively taking part in any form of match.
The Bowls Victoria COVID-19 guidelines for clubs states:
"A face mask is not required while undertaking strenuous exercise or playing community sport.
"You do have to carry a face mask with you so you can wear it before or after exercising, unless you have a lawful exception."
BDBD chairman Marilyn Blake said this meant that even if a bowler had taken their shots, as long as the end was still in active play they did not have to wear a mask.
She said masks were required during breaks in play and at the end of matches.
Blake said right through the COVID-19 restriction period the bowls community had been guided by government and health experts, and the latest development was an example of this.
She said conditions had been fluid right from the outset of the COVID-19 outbreak and the ability to be flexible and ready for change was as important as ever.
The BDBD's call not to have promotion and relegation in pennant competitions this summer was an example of the changing environment in the sport.
The BDBD board took the step after the matter was raised by club presidents.
This means teams will remain the same divisions in 2020-21 and 2021-22.
PENNANT fixtures have been finalised, with the opening rounds on dates previously set.
The newly positioned midweek pennant begins on Tuesday, November 17, after previously being played on Mondays.
