Lever has confirmed he is leaving Coburg.
The younger brother of Melbourne defender Jake Lever first linked up with Sunbury when he agreed to make the Lions his home club for 2020.
Sunbury coach Travis Hodgson said at the time the Lions expected to have Lever for only a couple of games in the 2020 season so to get him full-time was a big outcome
Hodgson said Lever provided versatility given he could play as a half back or inside midfielder.
Sunbury is in need of a key defenders, making ythe 22-year-old a leading candidiate for centre half back.
Originally from Romsey, Lever played 29 VFL games in two seasons with Coburg after playing with Adelaide Crows in the SANFL as an intercepting defensive mark.
He finished third in the Coburg best and fairest in 2019.
Hodgson said Sunbury was starting to prepare for pre-season training.
He said the club was waiting for AFL Victoria to provide a new update in readiness for hopefully what would soon be more easing of COVID-19 restrictions.
