"It has been clear for some time that a roundabout at the intersection of Remembrance Drive and Madden Road was the most effective solution to the safety issues surrounding that intersection," Ms Staley said.
"This is why I have been advocating for the construction of a roundabout at this intersection - it was the best way to make the intersection safe."
Ms Staley said the roundabout was clearly the best option for the notorious site.
"Local residents were telling me that reducing speed limits and installing more signage near the intersection was not going to work. It is good to see the state government finally come around to that thinking," she said
"Now that this decision has finally been made, the State Government must get on with building a roundabout that improves the safety of the intersection while maintaining the important heritage value of Ballarat's Avenue of Honour."
EARLIER: A NEW roundabout will be built at one of Ballarat's most notorious intersections with a $3 million state government commitment to be announced today.
The intersection at Madden Road and Remembrance Drive, the scene of a horrific fatal accident in November 2018, will see a new roundabout built.

The announcement comes just six weeks after a judge slammed the design of the intersection which he said had contributed to Nasuha Nasser making a fatal error of judgement, which caused a two-car crash.
During the five-year period between 2015 and the end of 2019, the intersection has been the site of eight crashes resulting in 16 people being injured with the one death and seven serious injuries.
"In my view the design of the intersection... made risks outside the control of the driver higher," Judge Mullally said.

The state government said planning and design work was already underway to fix the intersection, but was unable to give any specific timeframes.
Minister for Roads and Road Safety Ben Carroll said a working group made up of Regional Roads Victoria (RRV), Victoria Police, the City of Ballarat and the Avenue of Honour Committee had identified a roundabout as the best long-term upgrade to ensure the intersection is safe.

"The dedicated working group that has been investigating options for Remembrance Drive identified a roundabout as the preferred option at this intersection - and we've listened to that advice," Mr Carroll said.
"This intersection has a tragic history of crashes and after delivering immediate safety improvements last year, we're investing in a new roundabout to provide a longer-term upgrade."
Member for Western Victoria Jaala Pulford said the exact dates and timing would soon follow.
"Designs are already underway for the roundabout, to make sure safety at the intersection is improved while also maintaining the heritage value of the Avenue of Honour. More details will be shared with the community as that planning process continues," she said.
