Already there are boxes of toys for the 3BA Christmas Appeal, waiting to be wrapped to help ensure all children in the city can wake up to a present on Christmas morning.
Ms Fothergill said a lot of people will wander in to buy a gift for the appeal alone or drop off other presents, like books.
The annual Christmas Appeal, in its 41st year, launched last week with Radio Ballarat calling for cash donations amid the pandemic.
Toyworld in Howitt Street remains the only place collecting toys for the appeal.
St Vincent de Paul regional president Alan West collected boxes bought by Selkirk, which has long channelled money it formerly used for corporate gifts to clients into toys for the appeal. This is boosted by staff fundraising.
Mr West said demand from families in need was unknown but would undoubtedly be stretched from a tough pandemic year.
All toys are distributed to Ballarat families via St Vicent de Paul, Anglicare, Uniting Ballarat and Salvation Army.
