MAJOR bank NAB has confirmed it will consolidate its Sturt Street branches early next year while opening a "new format" branch in Ballarat's growth region.

NAB is set to open a banking branch in Delacombe Town Centre by the mid-way next year. The Courier understands Australia Post and a new pizza shop are also touted to be moving into the shopping centre.
The Sturt Street branch and ATM on the corner of Doveton Street will close.
Customers who do their banking at 329 Sturt Street are encouraged to continue banking in-person at NAB's 1001 Sturt Street branch, only 800 metres up the street.

Employees from the 329 Sturt Street branch will continue to support customers after the branch officially closes. Staff can take up roles via video conferencing, secure online chats, operations support or working in the 1001 Sturt Street branch.
The 329 Sturt Street branch has been temporarily closed during the pandemic.
Almost one in three NAB customers has selected video conferencing as their preferred method for banking appointments.
NAB retail executive for regional Victoria and Tasmania Mil Kairouz said the new Delacombe branch would be focusing on "relationships and conversations" in its new format.
He said Ballarat customers had been sent letters about Sturt Street branch changes and could also bank via video conferencing, online, phone or via the NAB app.
