Salad Fix quietly opened a shop front in the Housey, Housey space on Tuesday, with an official launch set for Wednesday.

The Forge director Tim Matthews salad bars were a popular concept in Melbourne but nothing quite like it yet in Ballarat.

"Basically, we were thinking a lot in lockdown about what coming out of lockdown would mean and a lot of people likely wanting to eat healthier after not exercising as much," Mr Matthews said.

"We had to be creative, particularly looking at our events space, with restrictions.

"There are definitely a lot of these in Melbourne and we decided we can get one going."

This follows another pandemic pivot from The Forge in starting a breakfast menu two months ago.

Mr Matthews said breakfast came from a lot of customers saying they were having trouble booking a place for breakfast under cafe limits when restrictions were easing. The Forge's Armstrong Street restaurant had the floor space and so, breakfast was on the menu.

Salad Fix is all about lunch. At least for now. Mr Matthews said the key factor on hours would be in customer demand.

This menu will rotate six to eight salads daily with customers to add their protein, like - but not limited to - tofu, chicken, bacon or falafel. Depending on the chosen salad, there is also the option to add a dressing.

Mr Matthews said the finished salads were not completely customised, but there was some flexibility and plenty of vegetarian options.

There will be different combinations each day.
