The event highlighted the institute’s new purple and green branding and also celebrated the recent renaming of the centre to the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute, in memory of Fiona Elsey, the young girl who was the inspiration for the laboratory opening in Ballarat after her death 20 years ago.
Board member Paula Nicholson said that the day was “all about commemorating and inspiring young people and looking at the achievements that she (Fiona) and others have done in our community”.
Entertainment at the lunch included Ballarat performers, host Bruce Roberts, young fashion designers from Ballarat Grammar and Loreto College, raffles and sweeps, and a ballroom dance by Dancing With the Stars’ Abby and Joel.
Guest Rachael Murnane praised the event.
“I came last year and it was great, I wanted to bring friends this year,”she said.
The institute’s next big fundraising event, The Cycle Classic, will be held in February.
