Like last year Bettor Be The Bomb is going into the race off a win at Melton, but that is where the similarity finishes.
The seven-year-old has improved out of sight since for trainer Basil Dooley and partner Paula Martin.
He has matured as a free-for-aller with three wins and two seconds in his past five starts.
His reinsman Jack Laugher is feeling upbeat about Bettor Be The Bomb's chances.
"He seems like the sort of horse that he's going to be able to cope with that little bit extra step up in grade and probably the rise in distance isn't going to hurt him either," Laugher said post-race at Melton on Saturday night.
"He just covers the ground that easy. I don't think the 2600 is going to be any troubles for him.
"As most horses do in those races, you rely on the draw and the run you get, but he will definitely be thereabouts if he gets those lucky splits," he said.
BALLARAT group 1-winning stablemates Dance Craze and Always Ready go head-to-head in a star studded line-up at Bendigo on Saturday night.
The Anton Golino and Jack MacKinnon-trained duo tackle the Maori Mile.
It is the first time they have clashed in a group 1 race.
Dance Craze is coming off a Melton win and has drawn gate one, while second row-drawn Always Ready latest visit to the races saw him with a group 1 Vicbred Super Series 4yo championship at Melton.
