But Brandon Wilson, 21, will remain in custody on separate home invasion charge which is currently in the committal stream.
Wilson was one of four people charged with various offences against a drug dealer in Ballarat on August 1, which occurred one month after the alleged home invasion in Wendouree and while he was on a community corrections order.
Brandon Wilson, Darren Anthony Hay, Sharnae Lewis and Aidan James Conaughton have pleaded not guilty to various offences and were this week committed to stand trial.
Wilson applied to be released on bail at the Ballarat Magistrates' Court on Friday. Police opposed his application.
The prosecution said the home invasion occurred in Wendouree on July 7, the kidnapping occurred on August 1 and Wilson was sentenced to a community corrections order on unrelated charges on August 27.
He was charged with the kidnapping and assault offences on December 3 while he was in custody.
Defence lawyer Manny Brennan said if released on bail, his client would live with his mother until a residential rehabilitation spot became available mid-next month, and he would engage with two support programs and his Centacare case worker.
Wilson's mother, Stephanie Scott, told the court her son could live with her and her four children but she would not tolerate drug use or him associating with drug-users.
The court was told Ms Scott had paid a $2500 deposit for Wilson to attend rehabilitation in Shepparton, while Wilson had told his supporters he was committed to ridding himself of drugs.
Police allege Wilson punched the male victim at a Spencer Street house in Sebastopol in the early hours of August 1. His co-accused Lewis, Hay and Conaughton were allegedly present.
Two other men allegedly joined in and the victim fell to the ground and lay bleeding in a foetal position, according to the victim.
Demands were allegedly made, including threats of forcibly taking drugs, rape, cutting his fingers off and told to hand over $50,000 and his belongings.
The victim handed over his wallet, which contained $600 in drug cash, his mobile phone and house keys.
Police allege Wilson drove Lewis, Conaughton and the victim to his Talbot Street address in central Ballarat. Mr Brennan said Wilson disputed he was the driver.
Wilson allegedly stayed in the car while Lewis and Conaughton went into the victim's house. Conaughton is accused of stabbing the victim in the stomach three times and once in the buttock in his bedroom.
Mr Brennan said there were significant issues in the victim's reliability and significant inconsistencies in his two statements.
Magistrate Letizia Torres said she was satisfied Wilson had shown compelling reasons for bail and his risks could be reduced by bail.
She fixed bail with conditions he live at a static address, abide by a curfew, undertake weekly drug screens and engage in residential drug rehabilitation when available.
Wilson will remain in custody on the home invasion charge. A directions hearing with his three co-accused, charged with the kidnapping, will be held in April at the County Court.
