A YEAR ago Darley and Golden Point were all set to play-off for the BCA premiership when the players were literally bowled over by a little thing called a pandemic.

But as the world has a habit of doing, everything somehow is right again, with the two sides set to finally face off for the Ballarat Cricket Association firsts premiership.
For most of the season, it looked as though that perfect ending was a long way away as both teams struggled at various times for consistency.
Golden Point for example were well off the pace early in the season. But it was probably its match with Darley in round 10 that turned it around. That day the team recovered from 3-40 in the chase to record a stirring seven-wicket win
Former skipper Josh White, himself fresh of a third-placed finish in the EJ Cleary Medal, agrees.
"We didn't look like it early in the season, we've played some good cricket since Christmas, it's quite funny how it worked out with the two teams that have got through," he said.
"Pre-Christmas we just weren't consistent at all. After Christmas we had a good chat, got things going.
"There was nothing in particular, just things all of a sudden clicked for us and we've been pretty solid since then."
Two wins in the finals, a one-wicket thriller over East Ballarat and a comfortable win over North Ballarat has Golden Point primed for its third premiership in six years.
"It's the fourth grand final we've made if you include last year. There's four or five of us that have won two, it would be great to add a third, it does cement your legacy in a way," White said.
Standing in the way though is the professional Darley outfit, gunning for its own slice of history.
Of the two sides, it was Darley who showed more consistency throughout the year finishing fourth with 11 wins as opposed to Golden Point's fifth with eight wins.
Skipper Brad Barnes said the grand final appearance was a testament to the whole club, not just the 11 who will step onto Eastern Oval on Saturday.
"For the past two years, the mantra has been to earn the respect that the Wendouree's and Mount Clear's have got, the one's that always put themselves there," he said.
"For us to make three grand finals in five years shows we are heading in the right direction. We're not there yet, but we're getting there."
Barnes said to read much into previous encounters would be pointless.
"Don't take too much out of the performances, each of us are good on our day," he said.
