Thomas, a 2010 premiership player and 2011 All-Australian, will play for Ballan in its round 4 match against Daylesford.
His appearance has been confirmed on the club's Facebook page.
"I'm absolutely pumped to be pulling on the jumper and the boots for the Ballan footy club," he said.
Thomas played a total of 258 games in his career spanning 14 years with Collingwood and Carlton.
He was first drafted in 2006 from Gippsland Power and remained at the Magpies until 2013, before joining the Blues for the 2014 season.
He retired in 2019 and has since become familiar face in the football-related media.
