The Times Higher Education World University Impact Rankings assesses universities' impact on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals goals through research, stewardship, outreach and teaching.
Federation was ranked 35 out of more than 1000 universities for gender equality, 44 for renewable and clean energies and 100 for partnerships.
However its overall ranking was in the 800 to 1000 range.
Federation University Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Duncan Bentley said it was the university's first submission into the Sustainable Development Goals impact rankings.
"THE SDG Impact Dashboard provides a vital tool for universities' sustainability work by providing rich data on performance and clear insight into best practise from around the world," he said.
"It allows universities to track their year-on-year performance in THE's Impact Rankings across two years of data to help shape and drive successful strategy."
The Sustainable Development Goals were adopted by all United Nations member states in 2015.
The 17 goals include good health and well-being, quality education, decent work and economic growth, industry innovation and infrastructure and climate action.
Federation's high ranking in gender equity represents its commitment to providing first-generation female students with equal access to education.
This was similarly recognised in its ranking for 'no poverty' with support for providing first-in-family access to higher education to address intergenerational poverty.
Federation University was ranked in the 500 to 600 range for clinical, pre-clinical and health and social sciences and 600 plus for business and economics.
The University of Manchester was ranked number one in the world for its impact, followed by three Australian institutions University of Sydney, RMIT University and LaTrobe University.
