When Ruby McLure was four, she tried to do what her mum does every day, and cut her hair.
Her mum, Ballarat East hairdresser Jess Humphrey, was not impressed at the time, but after three years of growing her hair back, young Ruby wants to cut it all off again - and help other kids out at the same time.
She'll donate her hair to Wigs 4 Kids, part of the Kids With Cancer Foundation, which helps children who have undergone chemotherapy to get wigs - getting some self-esteem back is a big part of the recovery process, Ms Humphrey said.
Along the way, Ruby's raised more than $1000 for the foundation, including at a big trivia night on Friday night.
"She comes in here and gets it washed and straightened, she looks after it," Ms Humphrey said.
"One of the girls we work with here, her partner lost his young niece a few years ago - we made it a bit bigger to raise awareness too."
