A gala program celebrating 40 years of regional touring by the company will see the company perform a gala at Her Majesty's Theatre featuring the grand pas de deux from Don Quixote, David McAllister's acclaimed production of The Sleeping Beauty, as well as two rarely seen works, Spring Waters and Poems. McAllister has also choreographed a new work Swan Lake Variations for the gala to celebrate the joy of dance and the beauty of Tchaikovsky's famous score.
While in town the dancers of the Australian Ballet and the Australian Ballet School's graduating students will also offer a unique view of their daily lives, holding a 'class on tour' session giving the audience a chance to watch as they take a class on stage and fine-tune their technique as they prepare for a performance.
They will also run a youth masterclass, giving dance students the opportunity to participate in a class on stage with a member of the ballet's artistic staff with live piano accompaniment.
