Earlier in the day, NBL1 South had indicated it would seek a 'professional sports exemption' to be able to play games in front of empty stands, however it has just released a statement confirming all games are now off and will be rescheduled later in the season
"Basketball Victoria and NBL1 South have agreed to postpone all NBL1 South games scheduled to be played in Victoria in round 7 this weekend," the league said in a statement.
"Friday night's game between the Hobart Chargers and Mount Gambier Pioneers and Saturday night's games between Launceston Tornadoes/North West Thunder and Pioneers will proceed as scheduled. Those games will be played in Tasmania
"All other games scheduled for round 7 have been postponed until later in the season."
EARLIER: BALLARAT basketball is praying for a quick turnaround with Victoria's seven-day lockdown plunging the NBL1 South season into chaos.
Both the Miners and the Rush are scheduled to play two games this weekend, the first on Friday night away to Bendigo, and the second a home fixture against Nunawading.
It is expected the club and the league will work together to reschedule the matches for the later in the season, however on Thursday afternoon, Basketball Victoria was still holding out some hope that a professional exemption can be worked out to allow the games to go ahead.
If the games are postponed, it is unlikely the June long weekend bye will be able to used as a catch up as it clashes with the planned Queens Birthday Basketball Tournament which is scheduled to be played at Ballarat Sports and Entertainment Centre.
Basketball Ballarat Partnership Manager Andrew Day said the club would be guided by the league's decision.
"As far as we're aware the Kilsyth game will proceed as normal, subject to state government guidelines," Day said.
"At this stage, the Bendigo game and Nunawading game scheduled for the weekend are expected to be rescheduled to some point later in the season."
Day said the Ballarat teams were in an advantageous position going forward as it's three interstate trips tp Albury, Tasmania and Mount Gambier had already been completed, meaning every game from now on would be in Victoria.
It means it will not have to run the gauntlet of any snap State Government lockdowns imposed on Victoria from other states.
"The league has got heaps of plans in place for this exact situation and where we go from here will come out in time, there's no rush," he said.
"The last lockdown worked, so we're holding out hope for a positive outcome. As long as this one works we're happy, hopefully this is just a week and we'll be right."
Day said he wanted to thank the support of fans, sponsors players and staff who continued to battle on despite the pressures placed on them this year.
In a memo to clubs, Basketball Victoria said it was in discussions with the state government about a possible exemption.
"Basketball Victoria and the NBL are working with the Victorian Government to obtain professional sports exemptions for athletes so the majority of NBL1 South games can take place this weekend," it said.
"Games between Mt Gambier and Hobart will proceed as previously scheduled as those teams have been re-routed through Sydney.
"We will have further information on the status of these games as soon as possible."
It said all games within the Victoria Junior Basketball League and Big V Basketball Victoria would be postponed.
All other basketball events, competitions and programs will be cancelled.
