The Ballarat Burger Challenge, which begins on National Burger Day, is an initiative designed to help out hospitality businesses that will be stuck in take-away and delivery mode for the next seven days.
There are big prizes on offer for the best Instagram and Facebook posts, and a special prize if you can eat a burger from different venues each day.
Venues from across the city will be participating, with some specials lined up just for the event.
In Soldiers Hill, Tin Roof's head chef Dinesh Pathak designed a burger that kept it simple and over-the-top at the same time.
"It's got a wagyu beef patty, organic red cabbage slaw, sriracha spicy mayo, fresh salad mix, and that's all," he said with a grin - there's an egg, pickle, and piles of cheese as well.
Tin Roof owner Yvonne Zhou said the competition's a good preview for their winter menu.
"Commerce Ballarat are helping to promote our burgers and dumplings, and I think people want to see how the City will help with smaller businesses to help cope with these difficult times," she said.
"It's all to help the community get through the next seven days, with food and coffee."
Commerce Ballarat chief executive Jodie Gillett said initiatives like the Ballarat Burger Challenge will help keep venues busy during an uncertain time.
"It's really important that we focus on what we can do to support our business community, and there is a lot you can do - shop local, shop online, support hospitality," she said.
