The ladder is sometimes not a true reflection of a side's form, particularly given the peculiarities of the BFNL season so far.

The removal of points previously allocated to clubs that have had a bye resulted in a shake-up of the ladder that paints somewhat of a clearer picture.
However, it still doesn't factor in the toughness of a team's schedule, injury setbacks and the manner in which they're winning.
All those quirks and more have been factored into the first edition of our power rankings.
1 - Melton
It should not be understated how impressive the Bloods' start to the season has been given Aaron Tymms' list has been one of the hardest hit by serious injuries. East Point handed Melton its first loss, but other than that the Bloods have coasted past their opponents - including three finalists from the 2019 season.
2 - North Ballarat
The Roosters shape as one of the season's biggest contenders, with Brendan McCartney moulding a young group into a well-polished outfit. McCartney has some of the league's best prospects at his disposal and its been the next generation that has sent the side on a five-game unbeaten run. However, North Ballarat has only played one top-four side to date.
3 - Sebastopol
They've won some, they've lost some, but overall it's been a commendable start to the season for the Burra. It's worth noting Sebastopol is yet to play at home this season, making that East Point win just a little bit sweeter. The Burra have already played the top two sides, losing both matches, but loom as a threat with an easier run of fixtures on the horizon.
4 - Bacchus Marsh
One of the biggest stories from the first six rounds of the season has been the resurgence of the Cobras. New coach Tom German revitalised a side that finished eighth in 2019 and provided a serious boost in midfield himself. Restricting Redan to one goal at City Oval is the best sign of this group's potential.
5 - Lake Wendouree
The Lakers have been one of the surprise packages this season. A win against North Ballarat was massive, but Lake Wendouree has faltered against the bigger sides - particularly East Point and Sebastopol. Dale Power's men have found the consistency that's deserted them in the past and the big-name recruits look set to return the Lakers to the finals picture.
6 - East Point
The Roos have been hot and cold so far, though at their very best its clear why they're back-to-back premiers. East Point has also played all of the top four sides, which goes someway to explaining the 3-3 record. The Roos' next three games are against the bottom three sides on the ladder so expect some crucial wins.
7 - Sunbury
The Lions have also been dealt the tough end of the draw. Games against the reining premiers and this season's top two sides within the space of a month hampered any chance of momentum. Travis Hodgson has lost some A-Grade talent mid-season and Sunbury's hopes rest in the ability of the kids.
8 - Redan
Long-term injuries have hit Redan hard, that's undisputed, but the Lions have failed to make the most of the things in their control. A side with serious finals hopes shouldn't be kicking only one goal in a home game, no matter how many players are missing. Granted, Jarrett Giampaolo's group has played three of the top four sides, but performances haven't been overly-convincing.
9 - Ballarat
Like their partners towards the bottom of the ladder, the Swans have showed real promise but have been held back by inconsistency. A minor dependence on key individuals has been highlighted by the long-term injury to Andrew Hooper. Ballarat has also played three of the bottom four sides in the past month, so things might just get harder in the future.
10 - Melton South
The Panthers have comfortably shown they're no longer easy-beats but the onus is on now to attack a season on their terms. A dire showing against the Lakers last time out should serve as a warning and having only travelled once up the highway, and lost, big tests await.
11 - Darley
The winless Devils are starting down a formative season after losing several senior players to injuries. More than anything, Dan Roy has a chance to blood a few youngsters and cause havoc for others.
