Twins Georgia and Will Stephens will open for dreamy wave pop band Majak Door at Volta, after their scheduled performance at the Workers Club in Fitzroy was postponed due to Melbourne's coronavirus outbreak.
Will Stephens said the duo were excited to play their fresh single, It's Alright, to a hometown crowd despite venue restrictions.
"We don't know exactly how it's going to go. We haven't played under these new restrictions so we're not sure if it'll be sitting down, but we're definitely excited," Stephens said.
It's Alright is a silky, smooth anthem about coming to terms with a relationship ending. Will Stephens said the single was a "pandemic project" he wrote following a break-up.
"I was writing a song a week, just to make sure I didn't get bogged down, and this one stood out," Stephens said.
"I had just broken up with this girl, and we were living together at the time, so I moved out. And yeah, it was kind of sad, but I think [It's Alright] was about not being sad; being totally okay with someone breaking up with you. I think it just came with the experience and what was going on."
IN OTHER NEWS
The band, which has been described as "modern, wonky, twisted R&B," has been playing together since high school.
The siblings have a great working relationship, with Will taking care of song production and lyrics, and Georgia focusing on the band's aesthetic and design.
"We've had a lot of changes, but we've settled on just me and her now," Stephens said.
"We've been playing as a duo for a year and a half and it's just been unreal."
The band has previously opened for The Smith Street Band, performed at the Queenscliff Music Festival, and has been regularly played on radio station Triple J.
