Several crashes have occurred in the last two years at the Dawson Street and Dana Street intersection, but principal Natalie Toohey said it was the near-misses that aren't recorded which the school community is sick of.
"In the last few years, the intersection has become increasingly busy - during school pick up and drop off times, student and parent safety is a significant issue for us," she said.
"We felt safety was likely to become worse, particularly as changes to Sturt Street were completed and drivers perhaps choose to avoid the boulevard.
"We thought it wasn't unreasonable to think that a serious injury was likely at this intersection."
Last week, the federal government selected the project for the Black Spot program - $60,000 has been committed to "install traffic islands, improve kerbs and pedestrian crossings", according to a media release.
While it's not known when work will begin, Ms Toohey said it was a relief to know it was going forward.
"We did make a list of possible ideas, and that certainly included all of those things, they seem to be sensible decisions that would be straightforward to implement," she said.
"We understand it'll take a short amount of time, and I think it's safe to predict it'll have a strong positive impact.
"A lot of stakeholders have lobbied all levels of government in this, and they've worked together as a community, that's the hallmark of the Dana Street community - it's been a good outcome."
Kingston, north of Ballarat, will also receive $456,000 to improve an intersection where a fatal collision occurred in 2019.
